WEIRD
In a strange way, as I look at my photo selections, I can see that every image on this webpage could easily qualify for the Weird category.
Old English wyrd ‘destiny’ is of Germanic extraction. The adjective originally meant ‘having the power to control destiny.’ I’ve changed my mind about destiny. It is no longer a place to get to. It’s a feeling. The only way we can tell if we are “there” is by knowing when it feels like it. That is the test. It’s the same criteria I use to determine when it’s the proper time to push the shutter button.
Now that the world knows what I like, it is constantly creating and calling attention to things that would put a smile on my face. I push the button when I see the world smile back.
Big Smile
I’m a photographer because I want to have the time to stop and take a picture any time, I feel like it. I pretty much stop every time I see something I have never seen before. I had never seen red giant weather balloons bouncing around in the wind from half a mile away.
It wasn’t until I had been playing catch-me-if-you-can with the two red balls against the big blue sky, for a good five minutes, that I saw, for 1/500th of a second, it smiling back at me.
